On 22 August 2024, Foreign Minister Diana Mondino met with José Fernández, Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment of the US Department of State, with whom she signed a Memorandum of Understanding (the “MoU”) on critical minerals cooperation.
The agreement aims to strengthen collaboration between the two countries in critical minerals supply chains, as well as to promote trade and investment in the areas of exploration, extraction, processing, refining, recycling and recovery of these resources. The objective is to increase the visibility of investment opportunities and identify potential co-financing projects in the critical minerals sector.
The meeting seeks to deepen cooperation in critical minerals and energy, and to strengthen Argentina’s participation in US strategic supply chains.
In addition, together with Argentina’s Ministries of Mines and Energy, an Energy Security Dialogue will be launched between the two countries to plan cooperative actions on strategic energy issues. This agreement reinforces Argentina’s potential as a key supplier of strategic resources, increasing the resilience of regional and global supply chains.
