On June 18, 2025, Decree 397/2025 (the “Decree”) of the Executive Branch was published in the Boletín Oficial, modifying Decree 64/1995.
This Decree establishes a new special authorization regime for acquiring and possessing semi-automatic firearms, enabling lawful users to hold semi-automatic firearms fed by detachable magazines derived from military-use weapons such as rifles, carbines, or submachine guns of calibers greater than .22 LR.
Such lawful users must demonstrate proven sporting uses and comply with other objective conditions established by the National Agency of Controlled Materials (“ANMAC”), which will be responsible for enforcing the special control regime.
The Decree came into effect on June 18, 2025
